Dr. Harry Charm
Dr. Charm attended California State University at Los Angeles as an undergraduate pursuing a degree in zoology when he applied and was accepted early into a doctorate program at the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO). He received his Bachelor of Science degree, and later his Doctor of Optometry degree, from SCCO. In addition to being in private practice, Dr. Charm has been an assistant professor and faculty member at SCCO for 14 years. He taught courses in the area of professional ethics (legal, professional, ethical behavior and ethical dilemmas in clinical practice).
Dr. Charm has had a successful optometric practice in Anaheim Hills, California since 1977. He has continuously taken the trust and confidence that his patients place in him very seriously, and understands how precious a gift vision is. He considers his patients members of his extended family, and treats them with the same care and empathy as he treats his immediate family.
Dr. Charm not only teaches, but is dedicated to staying in the forefront of knowledge in his profession. He enjoys attending continuing education seminars in his time away from his practice, and attends far more hours than are required of him to maintain licensure. He provides pre-operative and post-operative care for cataract patients and refractive surgery patients (e.g. LASIK). He is certified by the National Board of Optometry in the treatment and management of ocular disease. Dr. Charm uses diagnostic as well as therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (prescription medication) to diagnose and treat not only eye diseases, but also inflammations, allergies and eye injuries when appropriate. He is also certified by the State Board of Optometry in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.
Dr. Charm has been a leader in his profession from very early in his career. He was president of his professional optometric fraternity. He later became significantly involved with advancing his profession and protecting patients, and served in many roles on his way to becoming president of the Orange County Optometric Society. Subsequent to rising through the chairs of OCOS, he spent many years traveling to Sacramento as a member of the Board of Trustees of the California Optometric Association, and has served as president of COA.
Dr. Charm has received numerous awards and commendations over the years. He is a former Young O.D. of the Year recipient. He also received a Resolution from the California State Senate which was awarded to him for his work in his profession, as well as for his community volunteer work done in and around Orange County.
Dr. Charm joined the Anaheim Hills Rotary Club in 1999. He later served as the club’s president for an unprecedented two consecutive terms. He has since held, and currently holds, numerous leadership roles in both his Rotary club and in Rotary District 5320. He is both a Paul Harris Fellow and a Paul Harris Society member; two prestigious achievements awarded to Rotarians who devote significant amounts of their time and financial support to the philanthropic work that Rotary does to advance Peace through Service around the world. He and his wife Judy have traveled numerous times outside the United States to personally deliver the oral polio vaccine into the mouths of children between birth and 5 years old.
Dr. Charm enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys playing the saxophone. He is a sports fan. He “tries to pretend” he plays golf, and has become an avid hockey enthusiast. His wife, Judy, is a Registered Nurse. His son, Ken, is an Environmental Biologist. His daughter, Cori, is a Marriage and Family Therapist. His other “daughter,” Yasmine, is a 9 year old Greyhound rescue who had quite a winning record during her racing days! Yasmine is a very large female who is the sweetest, gentlest dog anyone could imagine. Her favorite pastime is enjoying her retirement and napping.
Dana joined Anaheim Hills Family Optometry in July 2011 and quickly became an integral part of the team. Her background is in professional photography, owning her own business as a professional photographer for over 20 years. She also has experience in management with many photo labs in the area.
Dana has many talents, not the least of which is taking retinal photos of patients’ eyes as a baseline entry or in the more challenging areas of ocular pathology. She oversees all operations of the office, but has a particular flare for designing our optical dispensary to “show off” the many designer line frames we provide.
Dana is a patient pleaser and loves working with people. She enjoys spending her free time with her two Chihuahuas, L and Z, and her new four legged friend – her horse LEO.
Andy's career as an optician began in 1992; even before receiving his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (1993). He has shared numerous times how much he enjoys the work he does and how rewarding he finds helping people to see clearer, be more comfortable and look great with their new glasses or contact lenses... especially children.
Andy grew up in Wisconsin. He worked his way up the corporate ladder in more than one retail optical chain, and was a general manager at several locations. He was the "man in charge" of one of the largest locations - a three million dollar a year location in Madison, Wisconsin. He later became area manager, overseeing multiple clinics. Andy first became certified by the American Board of Opticianry in 1996.
As he continued his career, he began to become weary of the 9 pm retail work nights - and Sunday hours. He chose to leave the world of corporate/commercial optical and transition to the more traditional, professional eye care, that can be found in a private practice like Anaheim Hills Family Optometry.
Andy came to California at the end of 2012, having moved from Milwaukee to enjoy a bit warmer climate, and to be closer to his younger sister and her family. He partnered with Dr. Charm and Anaheim Hills Family Optometry in July 2013, and AHFO is very fortunate to have Andy "on board."
He is an animal lover, and in his spare time enjoys walking friends' dogs, hiking, golf, tennis and basketball. He is an avid follower of Milwaukee Brewers baseball and University of Wisconsin athletics (Go Red!).
He is exceptionally knowledgeable about all things having to do with eyeglass frames, lenses and contact lenses. Please come in, meet Andy, and let him help you see better, be more comfortable and look great.
