On Saturday, October 17, 2015 (11:00 am to 5:00 pm) I'm NOT going to Disneyland! I'm going to the AHRC 9th Annual OKTOBERFEST!
There is no charge to visit the AHRC OKTOBERFEST at the OAK CANYON NATURE CENTER (free admission). The Nature Center is located just down the road from the entrance to the Anaheim Hills Golf Course.
The address is 6700 E. Walnut Canyon Rd., Anaheim Hills 92807 (the cross streets are Nohl Ranch Rd. & Walnut Canyon Rd.).
This is definitely a family gathering, so bring the children and enjoy lots of activities and games for the kids, along with face painting and of course the now famous "Wiener Dog Races." You will have loads of fun listening to a real live oompah pah band and learn the "Chicken Dance." Everyone has a good time, young and... not so young!
This event has grown and grown over the years, and the club expects numbers approaching 1,000 this year. If you've never visited the Oak Canyon Nature Center, you will be pleasantly surprised that this area exists right here in the middle of Anaheim Hills. You will feel like you are in the forest, away from the hustle and bustle of the city; no traffic and no noise, just peace and serenity. You will discover a place, probably not far from home, where you will want to come back and visit often; a great place to hike or just take a quiet short stroll, especially while our long daylight hours are with us.
Oktoberfest is a Rotary Club community service event, but it is also a fundraiser. If you wish to enjoy some lunch (typically bratwurst, sides, and condiments along with some choices of beer, wine, soft drinks or bottled water), it is available and reasonably priced; popcorn, cookies and other treats are available as well. There will be door prizes and drawings for other prizes too. And the silent auction is always a lot of fun with great items on which to bid (some really great bargains). The proceeds will help fund the many wonderful and worthwhile projects supported by AHRC; a sampling of how those funds are used follows:
Polio Eradication * Back to School Shopping Spree * Girl Scouts * Canyon High School Interact Club * Canyon High School Recycling Bins project * Aid for Educational Supplies (multiple community schools) * Ronald McDonald House * 4th of July Community Pancake Breakfast Sponsor * Concerts in the Park * TOPSoccer Field Days for Disabled Children * Illumination Foundation Family Picnic * Grandma's House of Hope * Tyrol Plaza, Seniors' Thanksgiving Dinner * Food Drive for Canning Hunger * Catrina's Club-The White House Restaurant Toy Drive * Canyon High School Beautification Day * CASA Children's Toy Drive * Cub Scouts * Elwyn Bowlathon * Relay for Life * Muscular Dystrophy Association * 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit * Disaster Relief * Book Donations to "Think Learning/Early Literacy Program" * Second Harvest Food Drive * Working Wardrobes program * American Diabetes Association * Alzheimer's Association * American Cancer Society... This is only a partial list.
If you'd like to learn a little more about Rotary, please take a few minutes to read the August 1, 2014 blog article titled, "What is Rotary." You can also call or write to me and I would be happy to share Rotary with you... then you can decide if Rotary is as good a fit for you as it was and is for me.
As usual, I am interested in your comments. Please write to me at Info@drcharm.com. I have enjoyed hearing from you and answering your questions. It's a pleasure to learn together.
